Show Don’t Tell

1: The boy was sad.
The Boy sat in the corner of the room, closed up, defeated, his arms covering his face. A low moan escaped his lips. His back scraped against the wall as he rocked back and forth, the salty taste of a tear filled his mouth.

2: The dog wanted to go for a walk
The dog glanced up at me, staring at me, her tail stating to beat against the floor. I stood up and she leapt to her feet. She started jumping around, panting as her excitement grew. Her lead flashed in front of her face and the room was instantly filled with her excited whining. She let out one short sharp bark and then raced to the door.

3: The temperature fell and the ice reflected the sun.
A chill set in as the wind came flowing down the mountain, bringing with is wisps of broken clouds and a sharp cold that cut through the air of the valley. The sun dazed the eyes, the light amplified by the the frozen ground and the snow locked mountains of the valley.
